Bomb Your System, Drink a Coke
--Read More In: Noise | Nutrition

I admit I used to be a big fan of Coke, until I found out a few of the joys of what High Fructose Corn Syrup, that Crack Cocaine of sugars, does to you. -So it's back to tea, because artificial sweeneners don't look much better.
-If only they would start making Coke with Stevia instead of sugar, artificials, or HFCS.
On this page, via LifeHacker, there are a few joyful items describing several interactions chronologically as you drink your Coke.
Such as: Vomit Prevention via Phosphoric Acid (which when combined with Carbonic Acid is -GREAT- for your teeth), Blood Sugar Spikes, Insulin Crashes, Wholesale Fat Storage, VooDoo Zombifying Adenosine Receptor Blockage, Happy Hormone Production, the eventual Pee
--AND the inevitable post-bender Coke Hangover wherein you feel Drrty, so Very Very Drrty, waking up somewhere in a Montreal gutter tattoed and itching in odd places.

I think that HFCS gets a bad rap...First of all, it has the same amount of calories as honey or normal table sugar...That plus, it's digested the same way...I really don't think it's the evil that people make it out to be. ESPECIALLY if you drink it in moderation. A little soda won't hurt you!

-You Are very right about Moderation and I agree with that. However, I disagree otherwise.
HFCS really deserves its own complete post -which has been brewing for a while-
But yes, if you are fully hydrated, drinking 8x8oz of water, eating 5 small, high protein, slow carb, low-ish good fat meals, getting 10-12 cals/lb. of body weight and not cheating with tons of sweets or white foods, then perhaps 1 can of coke every 3.5 days isn't going to kill you.
I'll never agree that it's ok, though.
But honestly, if your cholesterol and triglycerides aren't dead perfect and you have even 1 ounce of extra bodyfat over the ideal..., -I'd avoid all HFCS (along with hydrog. oils and processed foods) like a 4th of July party at Chernobyl. :) -Cheers.

-also, if memory serves, the average max fructose that a body can process per day before it is converted almost straight into fat is ~50g/day. -Cheers.
edit: if This Girl wants to have 1 or 2 Cokes a week, I think she'll be okay. ;)
